About the APPLES Project
Where is the APPLES project located?
APPLES is a multi-site project, based in the United States, that is housed at Florida State University (FSU) and Washington State University (WSU). At FSU, we work with schools in Panama City, FL, Tallahassee, FL, and Thomasville, GA. At WSU, we work with schools in Spokane, WA.
Who can participate in APPLES?
We first recruit school-based SLPs within our partnering schools. SLPs must be working primarily in an elementary school with children in grades K-2. Our partnering SLPs help us to recruit children with speech sound disorders (SSDs). For more information about participating, check out the Participate link!
Children with SSDs can have any level of severity and any speech sound production difficulty. We also anticipate that there may be additional language or reading difficulties. Excluded from the APPLES project are SSDs caused by, or related to: childhood apraxia of speech, cleft lip/ palate, autism, Down syndrome, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, stuttering, and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
How long will the APPLES project run?
APPLES is a 4-year project. We work within the academic year.
Year 1: 2024-25
Year 2: 2025-26
Year 3: 2026-27
Year 4: 2027-28
